What is Rainwater Harvesting System

A rainwater harvesting system is a technology that collects and stores rainwater for human use. These systems range from simple rain barrels to complex structures that include pumps, tanks, and purification.

Rainwater harvesting systems can be either non-pressurized "dry systems" or "wet systems." In dry systems, pipes run from rain gutters into a tank and do not hold water in the pipes when it stops raining. Wet systems are necessary when pipes cannot run directly into tanks.

The water collected can be used for nonpotable purposes, including irrigating landscaping, flushing toilets, washing cars, or doing laundry. It can also be purified for human consumption. To improve water quality in the storage tank, the initial flush of rainwater from the roof and gutters can be separated. Regular cleaning and inspection of the system is recommended for proper functioning.
